Russo Environmental Park
approximately 7km on the Goodwood Road and turn left into Stockyard Road
The Environmental Park contains a wide diversity of local native trees shrubs and wildlife. It includes huge Blue Gums (Eucalyptus tereticornis), estimated to be over 200 years old, which provide nesting hollows for owls, possums and gliders. Along Stockyard Creek, riparian vegetation shades fast flowing, shallow freshwater and provides a habitat for Azure Kingfishers, frogs and dragonflies. Endangered rainforest grows in the Park with thick and gnarled vines forming a shady canopy. Rainforest was once common around Childers and was referred to as "Isis Scrub". This type of vegetation is now scarce due to extensive land clearing in early pioneering days.
